May 1, 2009

Might have something to do with their Australian accents, but I sure do love the Newsboys.

It’s not a worship song directly, and it’s like 9 years old now, but I think my favorite song by the Newsboys is “Forever Man.” The last verse is fabulous:

    And the longer I live
The stronger I feel a Creator put us here
And the day will come, gravity will run
And we’ll meet You in the air
Where face to face we will wonder
    As the mysteries come undone
And at the end of all our travels
We find that our journey’s just begun

Funny story: I had a friend at my old youth group who had the biggest crush on Peter Furler (the lead singer). She got backstage passes one year when the Newsboys were playing in town, and she SWORE she was going to run up to Peter Furler and kiss him. We were like, “He’s married with four kids!” And she was like, “I don’t care I’m going to kiss him!!!”

Fortunately, she chickened out and settled for just meeting him and the band.

Y’know the other awesome thing about the Newsboys? My two-year-old daughter just loves the songs they did for the Veggie Tales movies, “In the Belly of a Whale” and “Yo Ho Hero.” Good for kids and adults.

One of the wonderful things I have enjoyed since leaving the LDS church is worship music! Oh man, was I missing out!!!! Hey, if the LDS sang some of this music during their meetings maybe they would have less people falling asleep. 🙂
I love all kinds of worship music — especially Chris Tomlin.

    God bless,
